Hello :) I suppose I should say what this website is about. As you can see, it is currently a default wordpress installation, sans default entry. I intend it to talk about my travails with Linux, more specifically Ubuntu.

So perhaps I should start by telling you a bit about myself? Well I am 16, male, and have long hair. My interests include computing, gaming, and reading. All pretty standard perhaps.

Onto computers, perhaps?  My interest in computers dates back to my first use. If I remember correctly it was a machine running Windows 98 and my parents allowed me a free roam of the system. I remember feeling proud about my folder, aptly named “Jim”, inside of which was a multitude of neatly organised folders and files, including both pictures, and, as I seem to remember, a load of .wav files I recorded off a microphone.

After many many years of using Windows I finally decided to try Linux. I downloaded Ubuntu (7.10) and installed it on an old laptop that I had. I used it for a little while but eventually I gave up because I could not for the life of me get it to connect to my wireless network (I now know that my wireless card was not supported on the 2.6 kernel).

Eventually however I rediscovered Linux on a train journey. Bered waiting at a station I bought a Linux magazine, and it rekindled my Linux fire. Getting home I remembered I had a USB wireless card, and lo and behold it worked! I started using Linux more and more, and now I use it almost every day.

Now I have told you about myself, maybe we can get into some more serious articles!
