So I thought it would be an awesome idea to post screenshots of my Desktop say once a month, so here is the first :P
I’ve been using really really pale themes for the past few weeks (They’re nicer on the eye compared to dark themes) and I’m really loving them. My GTK theme is Leaves and my Openbox theme is a slightly modified Ion theme. Running bmpanel with a slightly modified carbon theme.

Clean.

Dirty.

–INSERT START MAKING MORE POSTS POST–
This blog was mainly supposed to be about my explorations with Linux. But I feel like widening the topic to just about anything because I don’t explore Linux enough to make posts :P
Perhaps this’ll give me something to blog about :P

So the other day I saw some screenshots of someone’s openbox desktop at the new linux.com. Intrigued by the beauty achieved in the screenshot, I set out to try and achieve something similar.
It’s very annoying to set up, but once it is running it is very efficient and simple to use.

That I hate the Compiz cube effect.
’nuff said.
In other news, the new linux.com is here. It looks nice, but I’m having doubts as to whether it’s trying to be a social network :/ You can have friends, a blog, groups, applications. This sounds to me very much like Facebook, which is not a bad thing in itself, but does Linux really need its own?

So today, I upgraded my Ubuntu installation to version 9.04, “Jaunty Jackalope”. At first glance, it seems to be a very well polished release. The new notifications look nice, it boots faster, and it has a slew of updated packages. You can read a full review here.
But underneath all these additions, there are a few things I’m not impressed with. The first and foremost, is that Tilda has broken. It takes ages to appear upon pressing the hotkey, and if you have the animated drop down enabled it takes even lonker and stutteringly. I searched for a replacement but I couldn’t find anything =[
The new notifications are confusing, too. They don’t dissapear for me when I click on them, I have to hover my mouse over them to make them go away =[ This takes a few more seconds of my time where I could be doing something else!
Compiz has become slightly stuttery from time to time, especially with the “maximise window” effect. The window seems to zoom in for a second, and it freezes there. It didn’t do that before!
A another couple of minor annoyances such as the width of my menus increasing and upon clicking shut down bringing up another button to press before it shuts down (WTF!? I know that when I click shut down I want my computer to shut down!)
Apart from that, it’s a nice release, but I do think Intrepid was nicer!

Happy Easter to you all! Although I don’t believe in God or his minions I DO believe in chocolate, and hence the eggs! :D
I haven’t really been up to much recently, as I have exams coming up in May and I’ve been working hard for them!
Here are a couple ideas I’ve been toying with, though:
- A webcomic syndicator. It would download a list of comics, the image locations, and download them to .program-name/comic-name, where they would be easily viewable, perhaps through the same program. This may, however, take up too much space =P
- A desktop wheel. When changing workspace, the desktop spins round, somewhat like a CD.
I have no idea how to pull them off, though. Take ‘em if you want :]

This time looking like bash. I’m very happy with it, I don’t think I’ll change it again. I also added a new favicon =]

Yup, that’s what I’ve been doing! I bought myself an M3 Real (a card that fits in the DS slot that you run homebrew off) and I’ve been messing around with quite a few different programs =] First and foremost is, perhaps, DSLinux (OK, so I was bored =P), which is, basically, a CLI for your DS. You can’t really do much else with it, although it does have irssi, lynx and a really buggy GUI.
Other thing’s I’ve been messing with include DSOrganise, which turns your DS into a PDA, and LoneWolfDS, which is a gamebook that has been ported to the DS, complete with fancy graphics =]
You can, of course, do some illegal things with these carts but these things are ILLEGAL and should NOT under ANY circumstances be done =P
There are also some things I’ve been meaning to try out, like MoonShell, which is a multimedia player for the DS, and can play stuff like Vorbis to boot =]
So all in all, I’m happy with the purchase, and recommend you get one. I’ll probably update some more on the subject =]

I’m quite proud of myself for making this script. It may not be particularly complex, but it is my first one that I wrote specifically for a purpose: making a list of my music library as a .php file and uploading it. You can see the output here: http://c6h12o6.co.uk/musiclist.php.
Here is the script itself, complete with fancy # comments =]:
Edit: The code is not displaying properly, so here is a link to the file.

I thought the old one was too cluttered, so I picked the most minimalist one I could find. And now, widgets display correctly! I think I have found a winner with this skin.
I love the way the “n” in linux and the “l” in blog join together. Completely unintended, but an awesome effect!
